Symbolic
Elements
Your ceremony should feel like you. Personal, relaxed and full of meaning, from start to finish.
Symbolic elements are a lovely way to add depth,
personality & connection to your ceremony.
They are also wonderfully visual, creating moments your guests remember and keepsakes you can treasure long after the confetti has settled.
Below are just a few ideas to spark inspiration for your wedding, vow renewal or elopement ceremony. There is no right or wrong here. If something feels like you, we can shape it together.
-
Handfasting is one of those moments that feels gentle, meaningful and surprisingly moving.
During a handfasting, your hands are lightly bound together using ribbon, cord or fabric chosen by you. This might be based on colour, texture or personal symbolism.
It represents commitment and connection, and we can shape the moment with a few carefully chosen words or a short reading.
It is also a lovely chance to physically connect during the ceremony, which many couples really appreciate when emotions and nerves are bubbling away.
Afterwards, the binding itself becomes a keepsake from the day.
-
Ring warming is a subtle and very inclusive way to involve your guests, and a personal favourite of mine!
Your wedding rings are placed in a small pouch or box and passed among your guests, either as they arrive or during the ceremony. As each person holds them, they are invited to quietly share their good wishes and positive thoughts for your life together.
By the time your rings return to you for the exchange, they have already been held by the people who care about you most.
It is simple, heartfelt and often more emotional than couples expect.
-
A sand ceremony is a great option if you would like something visual and meaningful, especially where children or family members are involved.
Different coloured sands, or sand collected from places that matter to you, are poured together into one container. Each colour can represent a person, a family, or different parts of your journey so far.
Once combined, the sands cannot be separated, which makes the symbolism clear and easy for guests of all ages to connect with.
It also creates a beautiful keepsake you can take home and display after the day.
-
A unity candle ceremony focuses on togetherness and shared beginnings.
Typically, two individual candles are lit, often representing each partner or their families. These are then used to light one central candle, symbolising the creation of your lives moving forward as one.
This element can be adapted in lots of ways and can include children or family members if that feels right for you.
It is calm, elegant and works beautifully in both intimate and larger ceremonies.
-
If faith, spirituality or cultural tradition is important to you, this can be woven into your ceremony in a way that feels respectful, thoughtful and true to you.
This might include a prayer, blessing, reading or ritual that reflects your beliefs, whether shared or individual. It can be traditional, modern or a blend of both.
My role is to ensure these elements sit naturally within the ceremony, so they feel meaningful and inclusive for everyone present.
Your beliefs matter, and they deserve to be handled with care.

A tree planting ceremony is a lovely choice for couples who like the idea of something symbolic but grounded and relaxed.
During the ceremony, you plant a small tree or plant together, sometimes using soil from places that are meaningful to you. It represents growth, commitment and putting down roots side by side.
Many couples later plant it in their garden or keep it in a pot, watching it grow along with their marriage.
It is tactile, meaningful and joyful, with a touch of feel good green fingered magic.
-
A time capsule ceremony adds a really personal and often playful touch to your ceremony.
You and your guests place letters, notes, photographs or small meaningful items into a box during the ceremony, with the intention of opening it on a future anniversary.
It is relaxed, heartfelt and often brings both smiles and a few happy tears.
Future you will be very glad you did it.
