Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the place where all your curious questions find their answers.

If you are anything like my couples, you will want to know how it all works, what makes a celebrant different and how your ceremony can feel completely personal to you.

Your ceremony should feel joyful, relaxed and completely yours, and understanding the process is the first step.

So let us dive in and keep everything simple and easy from the start.

ABOUT YOUR CEREMONY

  • A celebrant works with you to create a ceremony that feels comfortable, meaningful and true to who you are. The kind of ceremony where the words sound natural to say, the moments feel well paced and everyone in the room knows they are part of something real. A ceremony that sounds like you, rather than something pulled from a template.

Your ceremony can include readings, music, storytelling, personal vows, rituals and the small details that make people smile and think that is so them. The laughs, the shared memories and the moments that matter most. There are no rules here. If it is important to you, I will find a way to weave it in.

Celebrant led ceremonies are wonderfully flexible. That might mean including religious, spiritual or cultural elements, family involvement or a quiet moment of reflection. There is no one size fits all approach. It is about what feels right for you.

Being a celebrant is not just about writing the words. It is about how the ceremony feels in the room. The flow, the pauses, the atmosphere and helping everyone feel relaxed and present. The aim is a ceremony people actually listen to, enjoy and remember as the moment the day really began.

If this feels right for you, you are in the right place.

  • Because your ceremony should feel like it belongs to you.

A celebrant gives you time, space and attention. I take the time to get to know who you are, how you connect and what matters most to you, so your ceremony feels relaxed, natural and genuinely personal.

It is not about ticking boxes or rushing through the words. It is about creating a moment that feels meaningful and well paced. One that reflects your relationship, brings people together and sets the tone for the rest of your day.

The result is a ceremony people actually listen to, enjoy and remember as the moment everything truly began.

  • Not at the moment. In England and Wales, a celebrant led wedding is not a legal marriage.

To make things official, you will need to visit your local register office either before or after your ceremony day and sign the legal paperwork with two witnesses. It is a short appointment, usually around fifteen minutes, and the fee is normally between £50-£70 pounds depending on your local council.

You will not need to say vows or exchange rings at this appointment. Most couples simply complete the paperwork quietly and save the personal words and celebrations for their ceremony with me.

Think of the legal part as the admin. Your celebrant ceremony is where the meaning, the joy and the storytelling come to life.

If you ever need help understanding the process or booking your appointment, I am always happy to guide you.

  • A registrar takes care of the legal side of getting married. They follow a set script and can only conduct ceremonies in licensed venues.

A celebrant (that’s me!) brings the personal side to life. I learn your story, your personalities and what you care about, then shape a ceremony that feels warm, relaxed and unmistakably you.

You choose the tone, the location, the style, the readings and every detail that matters. Most couples do the quick legal paperwork at the register office and then enjoy their celebrant ceremony as the real beginning of their wedding day.

PLANNING AND PRACTICALITIES

  • Almost anywhere you like! A beach, a woodland clearing, a cosy garden, a family field, your favourite pub or a beautiful venue.

Celebrant ceremonies give you complete freedom to choose a place that feels right for you.

I am based in East Devon and travel across the South West, the UK and further afield when needed. Travel within thirty miles of Exeter EX5 is included and anything beyond that is charged at £0.50p per mile.

  • If you have a date in mind, get in touch as soon as you can. Popular weekends, especially from spring to autumn, are often booked many months in advance.

That said, it is always worth asking. I sometimes have unexpected availability, particularly midweek or out of season.

  • Yes. I am fully insured with public liability and professional indemnity cover. This is the level of insurance most venues require and keeps everything simple and safe for you.

  • Yes, I do. I am based in East Devon and love travelling across Devon, Cornwall and the South West for ceremonies.

If your plans take you further, I am always happy to talk about that too. Travel within thirty miles of Exeter EX5 is included and anything beyond that is charged at £0.50p per mile.

  • I have a collection of wonderful celebratory outfits that work with different colours and styles.

I will always check what would suit your day so I look the part and blend in with your beautiful celebration.

creating YOUR CEREMONY

  • Yes, absolutely! This is where the magic is.

Your ceremony can sound exactly how you want it to. I will shape your script around your story, your style and what feels right for the two of you.

You can choose the music, the readings, any rituals, your vows and how involved you want your guests to be.

  • Yes, certainly.

You can include religious readings, cultural traditions, spiritual moments or symbolic rituals such as handfasting, unity candles, ring warming, tree planting or wine box ceremonies. If it holds meaning for you, I can include it.

  • Yes please! If fun feels like you, we will lean right into it.

Your ceremony can be lively, warm, emotional or a bit of everything. Whatever fits your personalities is exactly what we will create.

  • Yes, of course. A rehearsal is included in all wedding, vow renewal and elopement packages.

We can meet at your venue or run through it online if that suits you more. It is a lovely chance to settle nerves, walk the space and make sure everyone feels relaxed and ready.

working together

  • We start with a complimentary discovery call, which takes around thirty minutes.

It is relaxed, friendly and a chance for us to chat about your ideas, your story and the feeling you want for your ceremony.

If it all feels like a good fit, your booking fee and agreement will secure your date!

  • Only one. When I book your ceremony, the whole day is yours and receives my full attention.

I will arrive early, settle the space, chat with your suppliers and be there to support you both with calm, steady energy from start to finish.

  • Very much so. Dogs, children, grandparents and every other VIP in your life are welcome. If they matter to you, they matter to me!

Whether your dog trots in with the rings or your little ones decide to steal the show for a moment, it is all part of the joy of a real celebration.

  • Nerves are completely normal and I will be there to help from the moment we start working together.

On the day I will settle nerves, guide you through each part and keep everything calm and comfortable. You will never be left to figure anything out on your own.

If your question has not quite found its answer yet, that is completely ok. Every ceremony is different, and sometimes it helps to talk things through properly.
