Valleyside Barn Wedding Venue in Devon

In February 2026 I visited Valleyside Barn in Bickleigh, Devon, tucked away in the beautiful Exe Valley between Exeter and Tiverton.

It was one of those venue visits where the setting really reveals itself once you arrive. The countryside views, the quiet valley setting, and the barn itself all combine to create a space that feels relaxed, private and thoughtfully designed for weddings.

I had the pleasure of meeting Emma, who kindly showed me around the venue. Even on a slightly soggy Devon morning, Valleyside Barn had that calm, welcoming atmosphere couples are always looking for when choosing where to celebrate their wedding day.

You can take the virtual tour on their website, but in my experience nothing quite compares to seeing a wedding venue in person and walking the space properly.

Arriving at Valleyside Barn

You arrive along a hedge lined driveway, and as you walk towards the barn there is lush greenery and a tranquil pond alongside you. It is the kind of spot that immediately makes you think, “Yes. This will photograph beautifully.”

The pathway itself feels very welcoming, leading you naturally towards those bold black framed doors set against the rustic barn wood. That contrast between industrial steel and warm timber gives Valleyside Barn its real character. It is rustic, but with a contemporary edge.

Inside Valleyside Barn: The Main Barn Wedding Space

The main barn is generous and light filled, with capacity for up to 120 seated guests for the wedding breakfast and 180 for the evening reception.

Exposed beams, fairy lights and the most gorgeous in-keeping chandeliers, handmade by Matt, hang overhead. They are rustic yet modern and add personality without overpowering the space. You can see the care that has gone into every detail.

There is a fully licensed bar within the barn, with large windows linking out to the terrace and lawn. It creates that lovely flow between indoors and outdoors, whether that’s for fresh air moments, garden games, mini golf or just watching the Devon countryside unfold around you.

Wedding Ceremony Options at Valleyside Barn

One of the things I particularly love about this venue is the flexibility around ceremonies.

There are two main options.

The Outdoor Courtyard Ceremony

The Mediterranean inspired courtyard is licensed for civil ceremonies for up to 100 guests. Surrounded by honeysuckle and jasmine, it has such a romantic feel. Although the flowers were not in bloom when I visited, I could completely imagine how beautiful, and how fragrant, it will be in spring and summer.

It feels intimate without being small, and perfectly framed for that moment where everything goes quiet before you walk down the aisle.

The Indoor Gallery Ceremony

Just off the courtyard is the gallery space. This works beautifully as a wet weather contingency, but it is much more than a backup plan.

It offers a blank canvas, which means you can truly personalise the space to reflect your colours, theme and style. It feels calm, modern and considered.

Wedding Breakfast and Evening Celebrations

The barn transforms effortlessly from ceremony space to wedding breakfast and evening celebration.

Because the kitchen space is included, you have flexibility with catering. Formal three course meal, relaxed sharing platters, banquet style feast, it is entirely up to you.

Once the speeches are finished, the barn shifts into evening mode. From live music to a DJ or ceilidh, and whatever food you have planned, the space flows easily and never feels squeezed.

Accommodation at Valleyside Barn

Valleyside Barn offers exclusive use from Friday to Sunday, which gives couples time to settle in and truly enjoy the experience.

The honeymoon suite sits just a few steps away. Vaulted ceilings, loft style feel, space to unwind at the end of the day. It works beautifully for wedding morning prep as well as your first night as newlyweds.

There are also three luxury award winning glamping tents on site, sleeping up to 18 guests. Each tent has beds, a bathroom with hot water and power shower, and a fully equipped kitchen. It turns your wedding into a relaxed Devon escape for your closest people.

Why You Should Visit Valleyside Barn in Person

A virtual tour will show you the layout. An in person visit lets you feel it.

You notice the flow between spaces. The way the light comes in through the windows. The quiet corners for photographs by the pond and weeping willow. The river meadow beyond. The thoughtful touches that are harder to capture on screen.

Thank you to Emma for such a warm and generous showround. It was a real pleasure to explore the venue properly.

If Valleyside Barn is on your shortlist, I would absolutely recommend booking a viewing.

Planning Your Wedding Ceremony at Valleyside Barn

As a celebrant, this is a venue I would be genuinely excited to work at.

The courtyard would lend itself beautifully to a relaxed, personal ceremony, and the gallery space offers that calm, intimate alternative.

I am also very excited to share that I am now a recommended celebrant at Valleyside Barn, and I cannot wait to have the opportunity to lead some beautiful ceremonies here in the near future.

If you are dreaming of a ceremony here that feels warm, well paced and completely your own, I would very happily stand with you and help bring that moment to life.
